125 Year Old Tradition

untitled6 Rockets fly over the bell tower of the Panagia Erithiani church, during Greek Orthodox Easter celebrations on the eastern Aegean island of Chios, late on April 19. Each year, thousands of handmade rockets are fired by people from two rival churches on Great Saturday night, the night before Easter, in the village of Vrontados. The tradition is at least 125 years old.
